Environmental Issues
The Boyne fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery service, are actively involved with the council and their environmental officer Michael McCabe, in the River watch programme on the river Boyne, there are many aspects to this programme. This involved a clean up of the river, where we removed rubbish and shopping trolleys etc. Shopping trolleys have hampered our efforts of rescue and recovery in the past. We have also had a clean up of the bridges.
Many times in the past we have been called out to help swans and other wild life in distress along the river. We are also involved, along with the environmental officer Michael McCabe in the introduction of ducks, to the river Boyne. The B.F.R.R.S. have been looking after and feeding them, we also built floating pens to keep the ducks safe, until they were old enough to be released on to the river.
Members of the public have received this venture with great enthusiasm. Many parents now bring their children to feed the ducks regularly. You can see the delight on the children’s faces when the ducks come up to them, waiting to be fed.
