Boyne Fishermen's Rescue and Recovery Service <empty>

School Tours.

We did a tour of the schools in the Louth and Meath area, between March and May in 2003. The Boyne Fisherman’s Rescue and Recovery Service were the first river rescue service to undertake such a tour. We held talks and demonstrations for the pupils, the emphasis being on water safety. We got great feedback from the pupils and teachers alike. We also brought with us the Lough Conn; the people of Mayo and Enniskillen presented this boat to us. To some of the schools we brought the Ferdia, the Ferdia was given to us by the people of Ardee. All the pupils, especially the younger ones, received the Lough Conn and Ferdia with great enthusiasm; you could see their faces light up when they saw the boat. Everyone showed great interest in the water safety talks, also the demonstration on how our communication system works. Our divers also demonstrated how their equipment worked. Huge interest was shown in the workings of the Lough Conn and Ferdia.  It was a privilege to be welcomed into the schools and share our knowledge with them. We hope this knowledge will stay with them, and in the future may help save their lives, or help them to save someone else’s life. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting the pupils and teachers on this tour.

2004:
We were presented with a new boat in March 2004. This boat was named Jordan, in memory of Jordan Murdock aged 14. His family, and the people of Killough, County Down presented the boat to us. It was a very touching ceremony, and very much appreciated. We took the Jordan on a tour of the schools in the Louth and Meath area in May and June 2004. We also went and visited a school in Belfast. Again the emphasis being on water safety, we distributed leaflets and posters from the Irish Water Safety Association.

We have also for many years taken students from St Ita’s special school, for a day out on the river, this is thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved.
