Water Safety First - Drogheda Leader 2nd August 2006
The Boyne Fishermen's Rescue and Recovery Service this week reiterated their message of safety on the water in the run up to the August Bank Holiday.
A spokesperson for the Rescue Service said, "we have had a number of callouts lately, for people who have taken to the water on inflatable crafts. We would ask people to be very careful."
"If you must take to the water make sure you have a suitable craft, and life jackets. If you are not sure and need more information contact the Irish Water Safety association on (091) 564400, Email them at info@iws.ie or log onto their website at www.iws.ie"
The spokesperson added, "A little preparation can save a lifetime of heartaches. With the advent of the Celtic Tiger many more people are taking to the water than ever before."
"While we do not wish, to spoil peoples fun concerning water related sports. What we do ask is - think water safety, first, last and always. Not just around the August Bank Holiday but all the year round."
