Woman’s body is recovered from river

Meath Chronicle - Saturday July 15th 2006

THE body of a 55 years-old woman, who had been missing from her home at Beaufort, Navan, since lunchtime on Friday, was recovered from the River Blackwater outside Navan on Sunday after an extensive search.

Mrs Goretti Gillick is survived by her husband, Mr John Gillick; daughters, Anne-Marie, Edel, Geraldine and Patricia; mother, Mrs Mary Flood, Ladyrath, Wilkinstown, seven brothers and seven sisters, to whom sympathy is extended on their tragic loss.

The Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service (BFRRS) received a callout and joined in the search for the missing woman from Navan on Sunday morning. Gardai had launched an appeal for the public’s assistance in locating Mrs Gillick on Saturday.

Early on Sunday morning, BFRRS search teams, including divers, began a search of the River Boyne. The search continued throughout the day. At around 5.45pm on Sunday, the body was recovered by them.

The Drogheda branch and the new Northern Ireland branch of the BFRRS also took part in the search. It is understood that a taxi-driver contacted Gardai pinpointing the Dalgan Park area where the search was focused on Sunday afternoon.

The removal of the remains was scheduled to take place at 7.30pm last night (Tuesday) from 24 Hazel Drive, Beaufort, Navan, to St Oliver’s Church, Blackcastle, Navan. Burial takes place today (Wednesday) in St Finian’s Cemetery, Athboy Road, Navan, following 11am Mass.
