€10,500 radio equipment for rescue group
Drogheda Leader - April 2nd 2003
THE Boyne Fishermen's Rescue service have taken delivery of €10,500 worth of equipment which will enable their rescue divers to communicate under water.
The money for the equipment was raised through different events by the McGahey family, Kevin Dunne and Michael Faherty.
Spokesperson Frank Smyth said the new equipment will help to improve safety and will enable divers to talk to each other under water and will also enable communication with the boat above the water.
Some waterways are polluted and visibility can be reduced to a few feet, so radio communication is important, Frank said.
Peter Robinson, Safety Officer, gave a demonstration of the new equipment to the Boyne Fishermen's dive crew. There were a total of five divers present.
