River rescue open night

Mid Louth Independent - Friday May 23rd 2003

A VERY successful open night was held by the Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service (BFRRS) in Ardee last week.

A large crowd turned out to find out more about the work carried out by the group and to volunteer their services for a proposed Ardee service which it is hoped will be established in the future.

Speaking at the May meeting of Ardee Town Council, Councillor Padraig McKenny complemented the BFRRS on the demonstration they held and also on the number of visits they made to local schools over the past number of months.

As far as I am aware they have had a great interest in the establishment of a new service in Ardee and hopefully they, will be successful.'

Councillor Fintan Malone said the schools visits had been the highlight of the year and Cllr Jim Gavin added he believed there were three people who had come forward and were going to be trained up.

Councillor John Maguire commented that hopefully we would see the day when Ardee has its own staff trained up and has a rescue service in Ardee.
