Santa and Reindeers on the Boyne

Dundalk Democrat - Tuesday 23rd December 2003

SOMETHING of a novelty appearance will take place in Drogheda, starting today, Tuesday, when for the first time ever Santa and his Reindeers will appear on the River Boyne in Drogheda.

Children and indeed adults will be able to watch Santa Clause and his Reindeers moving up and down the River Boyne.

This is sure to attract a huge crowd to the banks of the Boyne, for we have been informed that Santa and his Deers will be lighted up with Christmas lights.

The idea for such an event, which will continue each day up to Christmas Eve, came from the Secretary of the Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service, Mr. Paul Burke. Mr. Burke, was of the opinion that it would be nice for the children if they could see Santa on the River Boyne.

When the idea was put to the members of the Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service, They set about putting wheels in motion, and have got great help from quite a number of people in building the float with Santa and the Reindeers.

The float is built around a Rescue boat, and Ardee woman, Mary Johnson, who has been involved so much with raising funds for the Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service tells us that it will be a sight worth seeing.
