Rescuers scale down river search for missing man
Dundalk Democrat - Saturday 10th January 2004
A MASSIVE three-day search of the River Dee by the Boyne Fisherman Rescue and Recovery Service Louth Meath Division was scaled down on Sunday night last.
The search was mounted on Friday last, after a motorist contacted the Gardai and reported a man standing on the bridge on the new Ardee link road.
As a result of the report, Gardai at once contacted the Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service.
At that time the Service were carrying out a search of the River Boyne, near Navan, and half of the members rushed to the River Dee. They were later joined by their colleagues
Twenty-five members of the Boyne Fishermen, assisted by a number of people from Ardee, searched the river over the weekend but found nothing.
Ms. Mary Power, PRO for the Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service said: "Our divers searched the river to the sea at Annagassan for the three days but found nothing.
"However, such were the accurate details given by a person who was so concerned for the safety of the man, we carried the huge search."
The search was eventually called off on Sunday night, though a watch on the river is still being maintained.
