Drogheda Independent Wednesday December 5, 2007
The Boyne Fishermens Rescue and Recovery Service (BFRRS) battled strong tides last Monday morning to rescue a man form the river Boyne.
The BFRRS were called out at 2.40 am on Monday after receiving reports of a man in the water near the Bridge of Peace. Gardai and the emergency services were on the scene within minutes and a brave rescue followed.
Spokesperson for the BFRRS Mary Johnson said: "Due to the strong current the man was carried down river from the Bridge of Peace several hundred yards to the Haymarket Bridge where he was rescued by members of the BFRRS" "Two members of the BFRRS crew entered the water at the Haymarket Bridge and due to the strong currents our crew did very well to locate him. They held the man up in the water until the rescue boat arrived"
The BFRRS rescue boat transferred the man to a waiting ambulance once they reached the slipway in Horse Lane and he was immediately taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
