Quay Rescue Drama
Wexford People - Wednesday January 28th 2009
A PENSIONER was pulled from the water at Wexford's quay front during a dramatic rescue yesterday (Monday) morning.
The 67-year-old Wexford woman, after setting down her shopping bags, entered the water at the busy quay front at around 10.45 a.m. The woman entered the water between two fishing boats and local fisherman, Martin Scallan, after hearing a loud splash, went quickly to her aid.
Mr. Scallan entered the water and with the help of Adrian Martin and Garda Declan Dennehy was able to get the stricken pensioner back up onto the quay.
A boat from the Boyne Fisherman's Rescue and Recovery Service, which was searching for Mikey Berry in the area at the time, also responded quickly to the situation. Wexford Lifeboat was just about to launch when it was informed that the woman had been taken from the water.
The distressed woman was transferred to Wexford General Hospital by ambulance, though she is not believed to have suffered any significant injuries.
