There are still many fishermen among our ranks. We have men and women from all walks of life. We are a completely voluntary organisation. We have boats paid for by the people of Drogheda, The Lough Conn was donated by the people of Mayo and Enniskillen. The Ferdia was given to us by the people of Ardee and surrounding areas.

Our boats and equipment have also moved with the times. We have an up to date communication system, which includes emergency pagers and communication system for our divers. This equipment was paid for by the people of Drogheda and families who have lost loved ones through drowning tragedies. Our very first rescue boat was a rowing boat, the only rowing done nowadays by our members is in fundraisers for worthwhile causes.

Over the years through tragic circumstances, we have met many families. During our searches we would have talked to parents, brothers, sisters and extended family members of a lost loved one.Our hearts go out to them; It is a very humbling experience for our service, that families in the midst of their grief and devastation extend a helping hand to us. Families and communities from all over Ireland have organised fundraising events to keep our service going. Without the help of families and communities from all over Ireland down through the years we would not be able to keep going, we can never thank them enough.

We constantly try to improve and update our service on every front keeping abreast of modern technology. Because of the support our service has received and continues to receive from families and communities The Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue, Recovery and Garda Coastwatch will continue to do our utmost to rescue and recover loved ones.
We know families wait for news and it’s a long and agonising wait. That is why we will do our very best for the families. If it is at all humanly possible we will not stand down until a loved one has been found.
