CPR

Check if the patient is conscious by calling him/her. If he doesn't answer, you should pinch him/her to check his/her reflexes. If the person is unconscious, the situation is probably critical and you should consequently dial 112 immediately – if however the assisting person is alone and in case the accident concerns a child, you should apply CPR for 1 minute before you dial 112.

Cardiac arrest – Cardiac massage
The patient is probably suffering from a cardiac arrest if he/she's unconscious, doesn't breath normally, doesn't move or isn't responding in other ways. You must realise that someone who's suffering from a cardiac arrest, can gasp a few times, - don't mistake this for a normal respiration. A cardiac massage is necessary if the patient is suffering from a cardiac arrest.

Adults and children over the age of 1:
Massage the area in the middle of the chest, between the nipples. In case of an adult, you should carry out the massage by using both hands but in case of a child, only one hand should be used. Still, if the child is big, you should use both hands as if it were an adult. Keep the arms straight and push straight down 2,5 – 5 cm. Massage 30 times at the speed of 100 times/min.

Children under the age of 1:
Massage, using two fingers, placing them beneath the nipples, with a space equivalent to the breadth of a finger between your fingers and the nipples. Massage the area in the middle of the chest, between the nipples, 1-1,5 cm. Massage 30 times at the speed of 100 times/min.
